Pedestrians will be taking over the streets of downtown St. Catharines today.

Open Streets is meant to promote the streets as a public space that should be used and enjoyed by all people.

Parts of St. Paul and James Streets  will be closed to vehicular traffic this  afternoon so residents can freely stroll along and take part in some free activities.

Co-founder Warren Buzanko says the IceDogs  are hosting hockey, the River Lions will be shooting some hoops, and the St. Catharines Museum invites everyone to a historic walking tour.

The event is happening between 1 p.m .and 4 p.m.
