OPP launch seat belt blitz today
At least 42 people who have died on OPP patrolled roadways this year were not buckled up.
OPP releasing the new statistics, as they kick off their annual Fall Seat Belt Campaign today.
The number represents a 20 percent spike since last year.
Commissioner Rose DiMarco says over the past five years, 233 deaths were linked to seatbelt use.
Of that number, 103 people were ejected from the vehicle, while the remaining 130 died of injured sustained inside the vehicle.
The seat belt blitz runs until October 11th.
