Plow operators facing high road salt prices and soaring insurance rates
Private snow plow businesses fearing this could be the winter they are forced to call it a day.
Owners fear they will get slammed with over the top prices for salt, combined with soaring insurance rates.
After last winter's road salt shortage, the province and municipalities made sure, this season, they get first dibs on salt, which could leave private operators scrambling to stock up at exorbitant prices.
Plow drivers are also complaining their insurance rates have soared.
The PR manager for Landscape Ontario tells the Spec, this may be a telltale winter for operators with some unable to stay in business.
Denis Flanagan noting snow removal contractors are facing a ten fold increase in their insurance rates.
