Police watchdog ends investigation into Welland arrest

The Director of the province's Special Investigations Unit has terminated an investigation into the August arrest of a 60-year-old man in Welland.

The SIU says an officer was called out to a Welland home on August 27th over a dispute between neighbours.

While attempting to arrest one of the men involved, a struggle broke out between the man and an officer.

The man was subdued and placed in a police cruiser.

On September 11th, the NRPS contacted the SIU to report the man had complained he suffered two broken bones during his arrest.

The SIU director says "In the circumstances, there being no confirmed “serious injury” within the meaning of the SIU’s mandate, the investigation is hereby discontinued and the file is closed.”
