Regional council talks racism, diversity and women's rights
A timely vote last night by Niagara Regional councillors in light of the blackface scandal facing our Prime Minister.
Council voting in favour of joining the Coalition of Inclusive Municipalites.
One of the Coalition's goals is to establish policies to end all forms of racism and discrimination as well as promote human rights and diversity.
In a separate vote, council also agreeing to create a new Women's Advisory Committee.
The goals of the committee are to "advocate for gender-based issue resolutions and opportunities related to Regional policies, priorities and decisions, promote leadership development that empowers women in Niagara to fully participate in civic life and research and provide information and resources about women’s gender based issues to Niagara."
