Report says Ontario will end streaming

high school class

The provincial government plans to end streaming in Grade 9.

Education MInister Stephen Lecce tells the Toronto Star Ontario is the only place in Canada that divides students into hands-on applied or university and college-track academic levels.

Research has found that streaming disproportionately impacts Black and low income students.

And It severely limits  their chance of graduating and going on to post-secondary education.

Lecce calls the practice discriminatory and that must change.
