SIU clears Niagara Falls officers in incident involving intoxicated woman

The province's Special Investigations Unit has cleared  officers in Niagara Falls in connection with a June incident that saw a woman trip and fall.

The SIU says on June 18th, EMS were called to a townhouse complex in the city after a woman had fallen in the parking lot and hit her head.

Paramedics found the 39-year-old woman on the porch of one of the homes, intoxicated, and refusing treatment.

Officers were called to help but could not convince her to seek treatment.

The SIU says the woman suddenly ran from the porch and fell, fracturing her left knee and was taken to hospital.

The investigating unit has determined the officers acted lawfully throughout their dealings with the woman and  there is no basis to proceed with criminal charges.
