Sixteen year old Walk A Mile In Her Shoes ambassador encourages all men to take a stand
A 16 year old boy is encouraging all men to take a stand and support women experiencing violence.
Logan Fieguth has been attending Walk A Mile In Her Shoes in support of Gillian's Place since he was 9 years old.
He's been putting on a pair of heels and marching around the Pen Centre to support the cause for years now, including this year as an ambassador.
"I felt like I needed to walk because it's the right thing to do." Fieguth says. "As I continued walking over the next few years, I learned how women are affected by domestic violence and it is a problem that society as a whole must work together to overcome.
Walk A Mile will be raising funds for Gillian's Place, a safe haven for women and children escaping violence.
Director of Development and Violence Prevention Programs at Gillian's Place Nicole Regehr says the need for services is increasing.
"We answered over 3,000 crisis calls last year, which is up about 50% from the previous year. We sheltered 308 women and children and we served another 1,800 through outreach services."
According to the official website, this year's goal is $135,000.
The event is coming up October 19th. Registration is available online.
