St.Catharines encouraging Niagara to join lawsuit against opioid manufacturers
The city of St.Catharines wants Niagara to join a class action lawsuits against opioid manufacturers.
The Ontario government joined British Columbia's lawsuit trying to recoup health-care costs associated with addiction, and overdoses.
Mayor Walter Sendzik says council is encouraging the Niagara Region to join the lawsuit so the region can get the money it needs to tackle the problem.
Sendzik says it's time for big pharma to pay up and take responsibility.
The lawsuit alleges the companies falsely marketed opioids as less addictive than other pain drugs.
