CKTB-News- GM strike

A few hundred General Motors workers in St. Catharines are expected to get their layoff notices today as the strike by their U.S. counterparts enters its fifth day.

Unifor Local 199 Chairperson Tim McKinnon says management met with workers yesterday to apprise them of the situation.

About 1,200 workers at the Oshawa plant were laid off earlier this week.

The Wall Street Journal reporting this morning, companies that supply parts to the automaker are also beginning to feel the effects of the strike and are idling plants and laying off workers as well.
