The push is on to honour a rock icon with roots in Port Dalhousie
More than ten thousand people have signed an online petition to pay tribute to a local rock legend.
Rush drummer and lyricist Neil Peart passed away last week at the age of 67.
The rock icon grew up in Port Dalhousie and even wrote an ode to Lakeside Park.
St. Catharines Regional Councillor Kelly Edgar grew up with Peart in Port Dalhousie, and offers up what kind of statue he'd like to see at the park.
"Maybe a picture of him standing at the park entrance with his sticks in his back pocket and leaning on a sign that had the lyrics to Lakeside Park on it. That would be pretty cool I think."
St. Catharines Mayor Walter Sendzik says he will put forward a motion during the January 27th city council meeting to rename the pavilion at Lakeside Park after him.
"Let's get that named the Neil Peart Pavilion and let's look at other options such as putting something down there iconic that would draw people into Lakeside Park. Something that we can do to really recognize the individual who, in my opinion, is the best drummer to ever live in the world."
Peart died a week ago after a three-and-a-half year struggle with brain cancer.
