Thieves targeting catalytic converters in SUV's
An unusual series of thefts are under investigation by Hamilton police.
Police say they have seen an increase in thefts of catalytic converters from vehicles, mainly SUV's, in the past six months.
To date there have been 61 thefts.
Police say the converters contain metal that is then sold to scrap yards.
On top of that, a converter can be removed in less than two minutes particularly in SUV's.
Most of the vehicles that have been targeted were parked in public lots including malls and schools.
