Thorold celebrates a very special early Halloween for Carter
As a nine year old boy from Thorold heads off to McMaster Children's Hospital this morning, he has no doubt the community is behind him.
Hundreds of people gathered at Club Capri in Thorold last night for nine year old Carter's Trunk or Treat event.
Carter is battling a rare genetic condition and mom Amber Dery says he will be going in for his 16th surgery today.
Candy was piled high in the back of a van, a haul Carter is planning to share with other children at the hospital so they can enjoy Halloween as well.
But the surprises didn't stop there.
Carter had a special helper as he collected his candy - Hamilton Ti-Cats kicker Lirim Hajrullahu.
Hajrullahu also got in touch with other members of the team to cap off the night with a quick FaceTime message.
Carter's grandfather, Howard Dorn, had one last surprise for the boy. He says as long as Carter's recovery goes well, they will be going to the Grey Cup next month.
Welland City council passed new rules stipulating garbage cans must be kept off front porches and moved to either a side or rear yard, or up against a building or fence, in an orderly fashion.
