Two Marineland belugas are heading to Spain
The federal government has approved the move of two belugas at Marineland in Niagara Falls to a facility in Spain.
Fisheries Minister Jonathan Wilkinson approved the permits under a new law that bans imports ands export of live whales, dolphins and porpoises.
Exemptions are allowed in the best interest of whales and Wilkinson says the Spanish facility is much better equipped to take care of the belugas.
The whales owned by the Vancouver Aquarium's parent company Ocean Wise will be sent to Oceanografic -- an aquarium in the Spanish city of Valencia.
Ocean Wise says the belugas will be ``part of a smaller social grouping under excellent animal care.''
