Wayne Gates introduces bill to help local wineries
Niagara Falls NDP MPP Wayne Gates is hoping to get support at the Ontario legislature to create an exemption for struggling Niagara wineries.
Gates introduced bill 209 yesterday Supporting the Economic Recovery and Renewal in the Niagara Region Act.
The bill would create a tax exemption from the 6.1 per cent basic tax paid on all VQA and 100 per cent Ontario wine sold at the wineries on-site retail stores.
Winery owners and industry associations say the move is a key part in helping the industry move foward.
Gates says the bill will provide some much needed relief at a time when many are struggling from the ongoing impact of COVID-19.
