As many people continue to face food insecurity, a couple of food drives are returning to Welland.

The annual Welland Food Drive is returning, but in a virtual format.

The 27 year tradition typically brings in more than 100,000 pounds of food to support The Hope Centre, Open Arms Mission, and the Salvation Army.

Due to the challenges of the pandemic, monetary donations are being accepted online at wellandfooddrive.com.

This year's goal has been set at $100,000 to help feed the 5,177 people in Welland who need help.

In the meantime, the Food for Fines program has also returned to the Welland Library.

All month long, library patrons can bring in a non-perishable food donation to have their late fees waived.
