A Kawartha Lakes man has been charged following a police chase that spanned nearly 100 kilometers Wednesday night.

Durham Police were initially called around 10:15pm with reports of a suspicious pickup truck in an RV compound in Clarington.

A police helicopter and a cruiser responded and police said once the cruiser approached the vehicle, it fled.

Investigators later confirmed the pickup truck was stolen from the Kingston area.

The police helicopter tracked the vehicle as it travelled through Bowmanville before it got on Hwy. 401 westbound, then travelled through residential areas in Whitby before going eastbound on the 401 to highway 57 were it drove over spike strips.

The vehicle finally came to a stop on Highway 7.
