Resident scammed of over $20,000 through Kijiji

The Kawartha Lakes Police Service are currently investigating a fraud of over $20,000 where the victim sold a PWC through Kijiji.  The suspect paid the victim with a bank draft and took the PWC.  When the victim deposited the bank draft, he learned that it was a fraudulent bank draft.  Kawartha Lakes Police Service would like to remind the public to ensure any transactions with people they don’t know personally, they should be very vigilant in ensuring the authenticity of any forms of payment and also confirm the identification of the buyer in case there is an issue with payment.

    City of Kawartha Lakes employee charged with theft

    In February of 2020, The City of Kawartha Lakes Police Service began an investigation into the misappropriation of funds from the Kawartha Lakes-Housing Corporation.  It is alleged that between July 2019 and February 2020, an employee stole over $50,000 from cash deposits.
