Tame Impala Wins Big At Australian Music Awards
Tame Impala, the creative outlet of Kevin Parker, was the big winner at the 34th Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Awards.
Due to COVID-19 precautions, this year’s show was staged in an empty Star Event Centre in Sydney on Wednesday, with most winners accepting via video.
Tame Impala’s The Slow Rush was named Album of the Year and Best Rock Album and Parker won Engineer of the Year and Producer of the Year.
Surprisingly, Tame Impala also won Best Group.
5 Seconds of Summer earned Song of the Year for “Teeth” and Harry Styles was named Best International Artist – beating nominees including Canada’s Justin Bieber and The Weeknd.
The ARIA Awards show was hosted by singer Delta Goodrem and included a tribute to the late Helen Reddy. Performers included Billie Eilish (doing her new single “Therefore I Am”), Sia (“Together”) and Sam Smith (“Diamonds”).
