Domestic Dispute at Hostel Ends in Multiple Charges

(SOUTH BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) - On July 26, 2020 at 6:21 p.m. Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a fight between two people at a hostel on Bruce Street in Hepworth, Ontario.

Officers attended this scene and spoke to both of the involved parties and reviewed the video surveillance.

A blue car drove into the hostel and shortly after it arrived, two people began to argue. Both parties were intoxicated and the fight escalated to physical violence, with the involved female hitting and punching a male several times, causing bleeding to his lip and several scratches to his body. The involved male was also currently bound by release conditions of an Undertaking from a previous incident, in which he is bound by release conditions to not be around this female.

Both parties were observed operating this motor vehicle.  

As a result of this investigation, Grey Bruce OPP have charged a 28 year old female from Quebec with:

·        Assault - section 266, Criminal Code of Canada (CC)

·        Operation of a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol, section 320.14(1)(a) CC

·        Operation while impaired with blood alcohol concentration 80 mgs or more, section 320.14(1)(b) CC.

The accused was released on an Undertaking and is required to attend Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on October 8, 2020.

Grey Bruce OPP have also charged a 28 year old male from Quebec with:

·        Failure to comply with Undertaking, section 145(4)(a) (CC)

·        Operation of a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol, section 320.14(1)(a) CC

·        Operation while impaired with blood alcohol concentration 80 mgs or more, section 320.14(1)(b) CC.

The accused was released on an Undertaking and is required to attend Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on October 1, 2020.

Neither involved party required medical attention.
