TOWN RECOGNIZES NATIONAL DROWNING PREVENTION WEEK WITH WATER SAFETY VIDEO SERIES

Videos topics include open water and backyard pool safety

Saugeen Shores, ON: The Town of Saugeen Shores has launched a series of water safety videos during National Drowning Prevention Week, which runs July 19 to 25, 2020.

With the impact of COVID-19 this year on aquatic programming, education for individuals spending time at the waterfront and in backyard pools is especially important.

According to the Lifesaving Society, approximately 166 Ontarians die in preventable water-related incidents annually. Parents and guardians must always supervise children around the water, and must keep young children within arm’s reach.

Watch the videos and check out other water safety resources, including the Town’s award-winning Waterfront Safety Guide, at: SaugeenShores.ca/Water-Safety.

Topics covered by the videos include:

“With 18 km of shoreline in Saugeen Shores, learning how to be safe around water is critical for those living in or visiting our community,” said Mayor Luke Charbonneau. “We hope everyone watches these new informative videos and stays safe this summer.”

The Town will be sharing messages from the Lifesaving Society this week through social media, and encourages everyone to join the conversation and share the messages using the hashtags #SSWaterSafety and #NDPW2020.
