Construction in Saugeen Shores well above five-year average

Saugeen Shores, ON: After 2019’s record-setting year for building activity in Saugeen Shores, the Town is pleased to announce that building activity continues to hold strong so far in 2020.

Despite the challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic, Saugeen Shores saw construction values in the first half of the year (to June 30) of $32 million. This figure is well above the five-year January-to-June average of $27 million.

Although the pandemic created restrictions on new building permits for several weeks earlier this year, Town building department staff are currently processing plans and issuing permits at an accelerated rate.

As of today, staff have issued 155 building permits, 57 of which were permits for new homes in Saugeen Shores.

“It would be an understatement to say 2020 has been a challenging year for construction projects,” said Mayor Luke Charbonneau. “But these building numbers demonstrate Saugeen Shores’ continued growth, which is creating new opportunities to improve our residents’ quality of life throughout our community.”

The construction value total includes residential, commercial, institutional, agricultural, and other new builds, renovations, additions and demolitions. For more in-depth construction reporting, visit
