Owen Sound man sentenced in attack on "Gus"
A 24 year old Owen Sound man has been sentenced to 18 months in jail after a brutal attack on a family pet last spring.
Not many will forget the details of this story in which a 13 year old black lab named Gus was attacked with an axe suffering injuries so severe, he needed to be put down.
Wyatt Sturgeon, who plead guilty to four charges including cruelty to animals, break and enter, possession of a dangerous weapon and assault.
The assault charge relates to an incident that happened earlier in the day when Sturgeon reportedly punched a man a short distance away from where the dog attack took place.
On top of the jail sentence, Sturgeon has a weapons ban for 10 years and is prohibited from ever owning or caring for any animals for the rest of his life.
Reports say he is also receiving help for his bi-polar disorder.
