WATCH: Neil Diamond Wants Everyone 'Washing Hands'
Neil Diamond has reworked the chorus of his 1969 classic “Sweet Caroline” to encourage people to wash their hands during the COVID-19 crisis.
“Hands … washing hands … reaching out … don’t touch me, I won’t touch you,” the 79-year-old sings.
Diamond, who retired from touring in 2018 after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s, posted a video clip Sunday on social media.
“I know we’re going through a rough time right now, but I love ya, and I think maybe if we sing together, well, we’ll just feel a little bit better,” he says. “Give it a try okay?”
Diamond, playing a guitar next to a fireplace, starts singing “Sweet Caroline” with the timely new chorus.”
A day earlier, the legendary singer-songwriter took to Twitter to thank “healthcare workers, first responders, supermarket employees, food service and utility workers, delivery drivers and everyone out there who is on the frontlines to keep everyone safe.”
