Kermit the Frog and Howdy Doody will be going on display at the Detroit Institute of Arts
The kid in me is so excited with the news that a Kermit the Frog puppet donated by Jim Henson in 1971 will be put on display this Friday, January 17. Not only is Kermit the Frog going on display, so will one of the original 1947 Howdy Doody puppet. This puppet hasn't been on display since 2015. They will be on public display in the puppet case on the first floor through late March.
Now if you think the DIA's Kermit is slightly different than the one that appears on The Muppet Show, you would be correct! The Kermit which debuted in 1976 has a different collar that the DIA's.The DIA's Kermit features a double crenellated collar. That type of collar was featured in the Kermit who appeared on Sesame Street back in 1969.
Kermit the Frog was created by Jim Henson back in 1955 using a coat discarded by his mother and two ping pong balls halves for eyes. Kermit by far is the most famous of the Muppets.
