Niall Horan says he has sworn off booze to prepare himself for 10 days on the road with pal Lewis Capaldi.

During a visit to Toronto last week, the 26-year-old singer told iHeartRadio that Capaldi recently texted him: “Make sure you have your drinking boots on.”

Horan and Capaldi are in the line-up for iHeartRadio Jingle Ball shows in Philadelphia, New York City, Washington, Chicago and Atlanta in December.

“We have a day off after every one so he’s already excited,” Horan explained, “so I’ve taken a month off alcohol this month just to make sure I’m in good shape when Christmas comes.”

The two are good friends (“He’s an absolute crazed animal,” Horan said of Capaldi. “He’s constantly funny) and have also collaborated.

“We’ve written together. One of the very few artists that I have written with...probably the only one,” Horan said. “We have a song. I haven’t heard it in awhile.”

The former One Direction singer also talked about taking a break after his 2017 solo debut, Flicker.

“I got to be a normal person for awhile, go on vacations, go to festivals, just do normal stuff,” he said. But, Horan added that he’s anxious to put out new music and to tour again. “I had enough of chill, I’m ready to go.

“I can’t wait to announce all that stuff and get an album out and just be back in the mix because it’s a really good time to be in pop music at the minute.”

Horan said the success of Flicker encouraged him to “branch out a little bit and try different types of music and just go for it.” He said the first single “Nice to Meet Ya” is an example of the “more aggressive” sound on his sophomore album.

There have been other noticeable changes in the past years, said Horan.

“I feel like I’ve got an extra chin. That’s been fun,” he joked.

“I’ve evolved generally. The gap between 23-24 and 26 is bigger than I thought. A lot happens to you emotionally, physically in those few years.”
