HTZ Hounds: Adoptable Dog of the Week – McCoy
Hey HTZ Nation, it's Jonathon back with another HTZ Hound. This week’s dog and his story is one that is near and dear to my heart. Meet McCoy, the Catahoula hound mix looking for his forever home.
This beautiful boy is approximately 1.5 - 2 years old. He’s quite a looker with his blue merle coat bright blue eyes. Not sure if the Frank Sinatra lyric had anything to do with McCoy’s name, but it seems like a very funny coincidence at the least. McCoy gets along with other dogs and children, but due to his size and strength (he’s 65 pounds), he may knock smaller ones over.
McCoy is a hound mix, which what makes his story so special to me since my dog Finnigan is also a hound mix. Reading over McCoy’s profile, his foster family has listed several characteristics that remind me so much of when I first adopted Finn. Some of those characteristics are very positive like being affectionate and comfortable around people. Others are areas that need some work like separation anxiety. McCoy deals with a lot of separation anxiety, and would do best in a home where someone can be around with for a majority of the time. Establishing a consistent schedule with McCoy will also be important for him.
As someone who has had a dog who dealt with a lot of separation anxiety, I will say it can be really trying at times. But please don’t let that scare you off. McCoy will absolutely shine in a home with a family he can be with forever. I can’t promise you that his anxiety will go away like it has for Finn, but I can promise you that hounds have a lot of love to give, no matter what they’ve been through.
