Fort Erie paying millions for lost water

Fort Erie residents might be the one’s paying for problems with the region’s infrastructure.

A report from last night’s council meeting suggesting the town is losing $1.4 million on average for water lost on the way to their taps.

The report prepared by manager of the town’s water and wastewater division Chris Pisaric suggests there might be a few contributing factors, one of which is breaks and leaks of the water main.

The Niagara Falls Review reporting that Fort Erie’s Mayor Wayne Redekop expressed his concerns that the town would be financially responsible for problems with regional infrastructure.

Ongoing staff reports and audits of water loss have shown a consistent loss of water dating back to 2015.

To address the problem going forward there will be a bevy of changes, many of which involve closer monitoring of water usage in the town.
