An increase in local unemployment numbers for August
Local unemployment numbers are up this month.
On Friday morning, Statistics Canada released employment numbers for the month of August. Numbers showed a 10.1 per cent unemployment rate for the area, compared to 10 per cent in July 2020.
In August 2019, only six per cent of the labour force was unemployed in the Kingston to Pembroke region.
The monthly employment numbers highlight an increase of 141,800 jobs in Ontario during the month of August.
Canada's economy added 246,000 jobs in August, a fourth-straight month of gains which have recovered nearly two thirds of employment losses from the pandemic.
