Climate Action Fund now accepting donations and funding requests
The Kingston Community Climate Action Fund is now ready to begin accepting donations and applications for funding, after being approved late last year.
The city-supported climate change fundraising effort aims to support local projects to reduce greenhouse gas or air emissions, or to increase energy conservation and waste reduction, among other environmental goals.
"This is about involving and empowering the community to pursue efforts that can reduce Kingston’s GHG emissions and stimulate the local economy," Julie Salter-Keane, manager of the city’s Climate Leadership Division, said in a statement. She adds donors will have the option to target their funds to a particular project they want to support.
With the help of a community, Kingston plans to make the city carbon neutral by 2040.
The city is encouraging charities and non-profit organizations to apply for funding starting Sept. 9 until Oct. 7. Successful applicants will have their projects featured on the city's website.
