Mallorytown Legion set to reopen next week

The Mallorytown Legion is set to open to the public next week for the first time since March.

Royal Canadian Legion halls across the country are the backbone for many rural communities, hosting weddings, dances and many more events. Because of the pandemic, many braches including the Mallorytown Legion had to close, drying up their revenue stream.

Now, legion will reopen its doors on Sep. 8, according to Front of Yonge mayor Roger Hayley. As it is a small legion and membership isn't as large, it took a while to get their safety measures in place, he said.

"With some of the negative news still coming from public health, some folks are still afraid," he said. "But we are now going to open. So that's really good news for the village."

Events are expected to be staggered but Hayley said more details are expected to be released next week.
