Koats For Kids
For some children, having a warm coat means attending school on a cold day instead of staying home.
Items that can be donated: new or gently used winter jackets, ski pants, hats, scarves, mittens, and boots.
Parents and caregivers place their Koats for Kids order with their child’s school, daycare or agency, and once their order is ready, they will be notified to pick it up at the same location. For a complete list of United Way Winnipeg agency partners, visit unitedwaywinnipeg.ca
Koats for Kids is part of United Way Winnipeg’s commitment to helping kids be all they can be. Our young people need warm winter apparel, so they can attend school and participate in outdoor winter activities.
Thanks to the generosity of Winnipeggers, 36,000 articles of clothing were donated to Koats for Kids in 2018, with 326 volunteers sorting donations, mending coats and ski pants, and delivering winter gear to schools, daycares, and agencies throughout Winnipeg. Collectively, they contributed more than 2,100 volunteer hours.
They appreciate all sizes of children’s winter outerwear, from infant to toddler to youth.
- Gently used winter jackets. Must have a working zipper and be machine washable (no leather or dry clean items)
- Ski pants
- Hats, scarves, mittens
If you have other types of clothing to donate, please seek out an agency that would be happy to accept them.
Running a collection drive to gather up gently-used winter gear is a great way to celebrate a birthday, engage your customers, or show your students community spirit.
Just let your friends, guests, customers, students or co-workers know you’re collecting & when they should bring things to you, then drop off your collection.
We’d love to know about your group’s generosity—register your coat drive & be entered to win a gift basket!
Imagine 7000+ kg of coats, hats, mitts, scarves, skipants & boots. That’s a lot of sorting, organizing & packaging!
You can join in for a few hours so United Way can get packages to kids quickly. Bring a small group of friends or co-workers—or come on your own—and share in Winnipeg’s legendary community spirit. Volunteers must be a minimum of 15 years of age.
Call 204-586-5628 or email to set up a volunteer shift at the Koats for Kids Volunteer Centre at 231 King Street.
