AC/DC Tour Drummer Has 'No Indication' He's Out Of The Band
Is drummer Chris Slade still a member of AC/DC? The 73-year-old musician, who has done two stints with the group, says he has not been given any notice one way or the other of his current status.
Asked during an interview with Italy's Linea Rock whether he's still in the band or not, Slade replied, "I've had no indication that I'm not. But AC/DC, as you probably know, have always taken five years between anything. And then suddenly you get (a phone call), '(Come to) Florida next week.' 'L.A., 10 days' time.' They've always been that way."
Slade firs played drums for AC/DC from 1990 through 1993, appearing on The Razor's Edge album and tour. He was dismissed when longtime drummer Phil Rudd returned in 1995. But then Slade sat in for the band's 2015-2016 Rock Or Bust world tour after Rudd was arrested for drug possession and threatening to kill an employee.
Since then, AC/DC has apparently finished recording a new album, with Rudd sitting behind the kit in the studio. Details about the project remain a mystery, but it said to be a tribute to late guitarist and co-founder Malcolm Young, who passed away in 2017.
