Angelina Jolie Credits Kids With Renewed Courage

While many still think of Angelina Jolie as a tarantula-eating plane-flying daredevil, the mother of six admits she’s had a rough few years. The 44-year-old was involved in a high-profile split from husband Brad Pitt and a public, often brutal custody spat over their six kids.

She brought her six kids to the red carpet premiere, where she stunned per usual in custom Atelier Versace dress that she paired with a scorpion accessory by Robert Procop and Cartier earrings.

Maddox wasn’t there (he just enrolled in college in South Korea), but 15-year-old Pax, 14-year-old Zahara, 13-year-old Shiloh, and 11-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne were present.

Jolie gave them props for keeping themselves and her together.

"They wrangle me," she told ET on the red carpet. "Honestly, they're more together [than I am]. Zahara's the most organized in the family."

"It's just so wonderful to have their [support]," she added of her kids. "They're my friends."

She reflected on her journey in acting, and said that her kids keep her grounded. She said: "Your kids are teens. My son is closer to that age [than I am now]... and so all the things I love about that girl, I'm seeing in the spirit of them, and it's helping me return to myself a little bit."

Her character as Maleficent has also helped reignite her zest for life.

"I think because she was created at a time when there were those old-time movie stars, she was made to be a bit like those old-fashioned, classic [stars]," she explained. "She's a bit delicious. I encourage everyone to put on some horns and feel what it's like."

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil is in theaters on Oct. 18.
