Britney Spears Dad Temporarily Stepping Down As Her Conservator
Britney Spears’ father has asked the court to let him step down as her conservator after he was accused of physically abusing her son.
A source told People magazine that Jamie Spears, 67, “decided to temporarily step down” following allegations that he put his hands on the singer’s 13-year-old son, Sean Preston Federline.
“Jamie has to focus on his health. He was also told it’s best to step down temporarily because of the police report,” an insider revealed. “Jamie seems stressed about it, and it’s not a situation that he wants to be in.”
TMZ reported that Jamie Spears filed documents requesting to “temporarily relinquish the powers of conservatorship … due to personal health reasons.” He asked that Jodi Montgomery, who he called Spears’ “care manager,” take over as her temporary conservator.
The move came after a police report obtained by Us Weekly detailed an August 24th incident involving Jamie Spears and the teen. Sean and his younger brother, Jayden James, 12, were visiting their grandfather at his condo in California when Sean allegedly got into an argument with Jamie Spears. Jamie allegedly became so angry at Sean that he broke down a door to get at him and “shook” him. That led Britney’s ex Kevin Federline to file the police report, and a change in the former couple’s custody agreement: Federline now has 90% custodial rights, while Britney has 10% and her visits must be supervised. They previously shared 50-50 custody. He and the boys filed also a restraining order against Jamie Spears.
Jamie Spears has served as Britney’s conservator since 2008.
