Camila Cabello, Billie Eilish, Lizzo Take On Elle Mags Song Association Game
Lizzo, Camila Cabello and Billie Eilish all share the cover of Elle magazine’s annual Women In Music Issue – and played the mag’s super fun game “Song Association,” where they are given a word and then get 10 seconds to sing a song that features that word.
Camila Cabello began the game with the disclaimer that her voice was a little rough, but her vocals were in full force as she rattled off the classics. When posed with the word, “Inside,” she belts “Emotions,” by Mariah Carey – but refused to attempt what she calls Mariah’s “crazy dog whistle.” Next came “Candy Shop” by 50 Cent. The only word she tripped up on was “Spicy,” although she recovered with tunes from Justin Bieber and Céline Dion. Other songs she covered was Dean Martin’s “That’s Amore,” “I’m Like a Bird” by Nelly Furtado, “Breathe (2AM)” by Anna Nalick, “Lost Boy” by Ruth B., and Bruno Mars’ “That’s What I Like.”
Meanwhile, Billie Eilish got off to a bad start when she couldn’t think of a single song with the word “dance” in it. “Wow, dance is in every song, I can’t even think of one,” she says, shaking her head. “Why am I thinking of ‘Livin’ on a Prayer’?” But, Billie actually managed to use four of her own songs in the five-minute video: “Lovely,” “Ocean Eyes,” “My Strange Addiction,” and “Bad Guy.” The 17-year-old also crooned a slew of early-to-mid-2000s favorites, including Pink’s “So What,” Avril Lavigne’s “Complicated,” and Miley Cyrus’ “Party in the U.S.A.” She also offered some left field picks, such as “Gone Away” by H.E.R., and Radiohead’s “Creep.”
But it was Lizzo that was the champ. Naturally, when the word “road” came up, she busted into Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” – with her own flair, of course. “First of all, that’s a mashup,” she said, commending the chart-topper. She also put her own spin on hits from Queen, Notorious B.I.G., Fall Out Boy, Beyoncé, the Spice Girls Janelle Monáe, Rihanna and Elton John. She also sings some of her own hits as well belting out hits The Greatest Showman and The Lion King. Not even a little grease stopped her: “I was just eating chicken earlier,” she explains, licking a finger. “Who gonna check me?” she asks. Best of all – she got a perfect score of 15 out of 15!
Here are some of the quotes from the interviews the stars gave:
Lizzo On Loving Herself As She Is: “I take self-love very seriously because when I was younger, I wanted to change everything about myself. I was told I wasn’t lovable by the media…by lack of representation.”
Camila On Shawn Mendes Rumors: “People can say whatever they want to say. They can speculate, but at the same time, we are going to live our own lives, enjoy it, and fall for each other like nobody is watching.”
Billie On Battling Injuries On Stage: “It’s the most agonizing thing. The more I treated it, the worse it got. I am a really stoic person, which is why I get injured so much. I never say when things hurt. I don’t complain. I don’t like being high-maintenance. I don’t like showing pain. I don’t cry. Ever. But there are some pains that choke you up.”
