Slipknot drummer Jay Weinberg revealed in an interview with official Slipknot fan club Outside The 9 how his father, drummer Max Weinberg of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band, reacted when he learned his son had joined Iowa's masked metal ensemble.

The 28-year-old Jay explained, "I don't know if he believed me, to be honest. No -- when we had conversations about that's what had happened, I actually couldn't even tell him what band I had auditioned for, truthfully, for a while, till I asked the band if I could tell my dad. But once I did, he was very happy considering this is a band that he introduced to my life."

Max first introduced his son to the members of Slipknot at an early age, with Jay saying, "I'm sure I would have crossed the path of Slipknot's music at some point, but he really made that initial connection between myself and the members of the band. So, for him to have done that for me and did me that solid of introducing me to these guys at nine or 10 years old, and then 13, 14 years later, I joined the band, he was overwhelmed and overjoyed, I'm sure."

Jay was asked to audition for Slipknot in 2013 following the dismissal of founding drummer Joey Jordison. The identities of Jay and bassist Alessandro Venturella, who replaced the late Paul Gray around the same time, were kept a secret for several months.

Slipknot singer Corey Taylor told us not long ago that the band has gotten very comfortable with its second rhythm section: ["It was interesting at first. We feel very comfortable with them now, and they bring like a different kind of energy out of us, you know. So we kind of resigned ourselves to the fact that it would never be the same, but it's different, and sometimes different is okay."] SOUNDCUE (:13 OC: . . . different is okay.)

Jay Weinberg and the rest of Slipknot are currently on the road behind their new album, We Are Not Your Kind, which became the band's third studio LP in a row to debut atop the Billboard 200 chart when it was released last month.
