Trump Lashes Out at Debra Messing, Tells NBC To Fire Her
President Donald Trump is still upset about Will & Grace star Debra Messing’s tweets. Trump called her out for her August 31sttweet requesting “a list of attendees” to a reported Trump fundraiser in Beverly Hills. She also supported a church’s sign that read “A black vote for Trump is mental illness” on one side and “A white vote for Trump is pure racism” on the other, in a now-deleted tweet.
Messing was slammed by many on both sides of the aisle, who said calling for a list of attendees was dangerous and mirrored a dark era of McCarthyism in the nation’s past, when suspected communists were black-listed. She later apologized, but Trump isn’t letting the matter drop.
"Bad 'actress' Debra The Mess Messing is in hot water," Trump tweeted Thursday. "She wants to create a 'Blacklist' of Trump supporters, & is being accused of McCarthyism. Is also being accused of being a Racist because of the terrible things she said about blacks and mental illness.”
He continued: "If Roseanne Barr........said what she did, even being on a much higher rated show, she would have been thrown off television," areference to Barr's ousting from her ABC series for a racist tweet. "Will Fake News NBC allow a McCarthy style Racist to continue? ABC fired Roseanne. Watch the double standard!"
On social media, the general consensus to his rant was: “In the middle of a massive natural disaster you’re spending you’re spending your time picking a fight with the cast of Will and Grace?”
Alec Baldwin stepped up for Messing too, tweeting: "I think the President should be able to run at least one quarter mile and in under 3 minutes," the Match Game host wrote in response to Trump's tweet labeling Messing a "bad 'actress.' "
