Alive to Drive Car Show
West Kelowna's first Alive to Drive car show is happening at the Okanagan Lake Shopping Centre today.
They are raising awareness about drinking and driving, and fundraising to support MADD Canada and Designated Driver Dad's in the Okanagan.
“What they need is money for insurance, they need money for gas, and they need money to buy the jackets that the Designated Driver Dads wear. All the costs you don’t realize go into effect when providing a service like that” said Event Coordinator Patrick Tondu.
Both of those services operate by donation, offering you a safe ride home, without expecting a single dime.
“When you call them up at two in the morning, there is a dad that is willing to donate his time to come and get you; and if you don't have the money to take a cab home, you can call these guys, literally give them ten cents out of your pocket and they will drive you home.”
He said approximately 70 cars are in attendance, some of which have come from as far as Saskatchewan and Edmonton, as well as Vancouver and other cities in B.C's interior.
The goal is to raise $10,000 and as of noon Tondu estimated they had reached at least $3,000.
