Spike in vehicle thefts in North Okanagan

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP are reminding the public not to leave valuables in your car.

In the last month the Vernon and North Okanagan RCMP have received almost 60 reports of items being stolen from vehicles. These crimes have spanned across the North Okanagan.

The items stolen have ranged from money, suitcases, ski equipment, purses, wallets, tools, sunglasses and computers. Some vehicles had been left unlocked, and some had their windows smashed to steal the items inside.

"It doesn't matter if it's a few hours, overnight, or several days while on a trip" said Cst Jocelyn Noseworthy of the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP. "If it's valuable to you, chances are a thief will think it's valuable too. Protect things by not leaving them in your vehicle."
