Long-time grocery store Lakeview Market at 3303 Pandosy Street has completely renovated the outside of their building and boasts a brand new look. Owned and operated by the Jones family since 1968, the store has been in operation since 1946 and moved to the Pandosy location in 1982. Well-known local, Ed Desjardins has been the store manager for over 30 years (started at the store when he was 13) and Barb Hill represents the Jones family. Lakeview market has always kept its local community charm while being a high-quality market. They offer quality service including a full time butcher, Brad Struck, who cuts their own meat, a bakery in which everything is made from scratch with bakery manager Rory Taylor, locally sourced produce, floral department, lots of parking, no charge for carts, no charge for bags and if you need carry-out to your vehicle, they are there to help. The store employs several staff that has been with the company for many years, including Ed’s mother Shirley Desjardins and Barb Farris both with 30 plus years of history. Once Upon a Bookstore has opened at 2795 Tutt Street across from Raymer Elementary School. Owned and operated by Melissa Bourdon-King, who managed a children’s bookstore in Toronto for 12 years, the atmosphere of the bookstore is a bright and inviting space for children and families. It is designed to allow kids to roam, be tactile and stop and enjoy a good book. The store offers a highly curated selection of books from baby to young adult, (with a few adult books), puzzles, games, crafts, art supplies, and toys. Melissa offers personalized service as she is passionate about books and would like to share that love with the community. Storytimes for ages 2 to 5 are Saturdays. Canada’s largest fiberglass boat builder and local company, Campion Marine has officially launched a new logo and the unveiling of the new Rage R22 Multi Species performance fishing boat, new glass dash technology and future models in virtual reality. Chef Rod Butters and Audrey Surrao, the duo behind RauDZ Creative Concepts Ltd. have announced that local Chef Geoffrey Couper has joined their team as culinary education director at the soon-to-be-open The Okanagan Table – Kitchen Events Catering. Chef Couper has had the opportunity to provide culinary inspiration for many wine producers in the valley including, Mission Hill Family Estate Winery, CedarCreek Estate Winery, Blue Mountain Winery, and Andrew Peller Ltd. Chef Couper has represented the province in various competitions and served as past chair and past president of the Okanagan Chef’s Association. This Friday, September 6, the Cops for Kids Ride presented by the Kelowna Foundation for Hope and Social Innovation will leave Kelowna on their annual 1,000km journey across South Eastern B.C. The team of 34 RCMP members and friends will return on Sunday, September 15th to the Ramada Hotel & Conference Centre. All funds raised will support ongoing requests from families within South Eastern BC in medial, physical and traumatic crisis. Each rider has volunteered at community events, provided their own bike, trained on their own time and fundraised a minimum of $2,500 in order to participate.
