Tis' the season for sticky fingers and porch pirates
As we get ready to deck our halls for the upcoming holiday season, RCMP are reminding the public to be vigilant and take steps to prevent those with sticky fingers from making off with our holiday cheer. Traditionally, at this time of year, there is an increase of thefts from vehicles, thefts of packages and other items that are quick to steal.
There are some simple things we can all do to make it much harder for thieves to work in our communities.
Lock your vehicle doors, and don't leave anything valuable in there.
When winterizing your recreational vehicles, make sure you remove the propane tanks and store them somewhere secure.
If you're expecting a package delivery, arrange for it to be made while you're home, or enlist help from your neighbors.
Make sure your house is locked and secure if you're leaving. Let your trusted neighbours know your plans.
Keep an eye on your community. If you see suspicious activity, report it to your local police.
"These few simple steps will help us all enjoy this holiday season." says Cst Jocelyn Noseworthy, spokesperson for the Vernon/North Okanagan RCMP. "Help us prevent crime by taking some simple steps to remove those easy opportunities, and report criminal activity to the police or CrimeStoppers."
