The Municipality of Lakeshore has opened up another online study form regarding the future of large scale greenhouse developments.

Lakeshore is currently working towards potentially regulating the greenhouse industry before March 2023, which is when an interim control by-law banning greenhouse developments is set to expire.

On December 13, Lakeshore council voted to move forward with a plan to update current by-laws and regulations around the development of large scale greenhouse facilities.

The new rules would take into consideration issues around light and odours, issued faced in in communities like Leamington and Kingsville, which host a number of large scale greenhouse operations.

Prior to permitting large-scale greenhouse developments, Lakeshore would also seek a regional stormwater study to identify a common release rate on the various watersheds, a stormwater discharge quality monitoring program as well as a municipal financial impact analysis.

The draft amendments to Lakeshore's Official Plan and Zoning By-law are available for review online as well.

Residents and stakeholders are invited to provide their feedback on the draft amendments prior to a presentation at a public meeting, which will be held on February 14 in conjunction with the regular council meeting which begins at 5 p.m.
