Catholic Church Cancels Weekend Masses throughout Region

The Diocese of London has announced weekend masses throughout the region have been cancelled.

In a statement from Bishop Ronald Fabbro, the move is in response to COVID-19 containment measures recommending gatherings of 250 or more be postponed.

Fabbro goes on to say Catholic churches will remain open for private prayer and daily masses will continue during the week as they tend to draw smaller numbers. Parishioners that do attend those services will be asked to maintain a distance of at least 2 metres.

According to the statement, the church will continue to, "consult with public health officials to determine the course of action for next weekend and subsequent weekends and Bishop Fabbro grants the faithful dispensation from their Sunday obligation for as long as necessary."

Windsor's Parkwood Gospel Temple also announced it will be cancelling its weekend services for its more than 2,000 members.

The Diocese of London will update closures on its website as they're announced.
