15th Annual WIFF Kicks Off
The 15th Annual Windsor International Film Festival (WIFF) kicks off on Friday.
The 10-day long festival will screen 165 films at three different venues in the city — The Capitol Theatre, Chrysler Theatre, and the Armouries.
Executive Director Vincent Georgie tells AM800's The Morning Drive that the WIFF team is very energized to get going.
"It's something that's been built locally and that's something that's been built by your friends and neighbours," says Georgie. "This year it will take almost 300 people to put on the festival in the 10 days but there's a core group of about 30 of us that work on the festival year-round."
Georgie says the way the community has embraced the festival is incredible.
"This year we expect to sell about 40,000 tickets," he says. It’s tons and tons of people and tons of people that come downtown all the time and some people that come downtown maybe just once a year for our festival. Either way it has an energy to it and it really makes the downtown alive."
The goal of the festival is to offer something for everyone, Georgie explains.
"Comedy, and drama, and action and documentary and family movies, and we've even got special screening of Lion King and Beauty and the Beast," he says."
Tickets for different events and screenings can be purchased online at windsorfilmfestival.com.
