A Section of I-75 to Close This Weekend
A section of I-75 will be closed this weekend in both directions.
The interstate will shut down as crews remove three overpass bridges.
The work is part of the Gordie Howe International Bridge project.
Aaron Epstein is with Bridging North America.
He says starting Friday night (11pm) the freeway will be closed from Springwells St. to Clark St.
"There's a couple miles stretch in between there and it will allow for detours and traffic management, appropriate detours that will shut that area down," says Epstein.
He says the three bridges need to come down to perform future work on I-75.
"Then we'll continue to do work on I-75 to make room for all the various connecting ramps that have to go on between the U-S Port of Entry and I-75 itself," says Epstein. "So as far as staging all the work that has to happen these bridges come down and ultimately later on, more work continues on I-75 to get it in its final shape."
Epstein says the freeway is expected to re-open either late Sunday or early Monday morning.
He says detour signs have been posted.
