An expansion of the Miracle Park in Amherstburg could be on the way.

The Miracle League Ballpark for people with physical disabilities has been a fixture outside the Libro Centre since 2010. A delegation will go before council Monday night to seek support for a specialized playground called The Imagination Park.

The group is asking council to waive fees and grant access to the required 8,800 sq.ft. of land for the park and a shed adjacent to the existing footprint.

Organizers will seek funding through donations and sponsorships to build the new structures, but will ask the town for help excavating the site and maintaining the finished product. The town already takes care of the existing park and allows the group to operate independently on the Libro Centre property.

A partnership is also being proposed to provide a greater level of service for the facility using town staff and volunteers.

The estimated cost of the project has yet to be released, but construction is expected to begin this spring.
