Bell Back as Radio Voice of Spitfires

The Windsor Spitfires radio broadcasts will have a familar voice.

AM800 Sports Director Steve Bell returns as the radio play-by-play voice for the OHL team this season.

Bell has been a radio personality in Windsor since 1980.

He first appeared on Spitfire radio broadcasts in the mid-80's and became the team's play-by-play voice in 1987, a tradition that continued with a few alterations until 2008.

Bell returned to the broadcast half way through last season when Mike Miller retired due to lingering vocal cord issues.

“I don't take it lightly. It's an honour,” says Bell. “You take a look around the Ontario Hockey League, there's only 20 of these positions. It's a lot of fun and I take it seriously. If you would have told me when I was a kid that I would have a chance to spend this much time going to hockey games as part of my living, I would have jumped at it.”

Bell will broadcast more than 50 home and away games for the Spitfires this season on AM800.

Frank Dayus Jr. returns as a colour commentator during home games.

AM800 News Director Manny Paiva will do the remainder on the 68 game schedule and host the pre-game show during home games.
