Essex Promoting Business Through 'Explore Eat Essex' Initiative
Essex is looking to shine a spotlight on its business community.
The town's Arts, Culture and Tourism Committee has officially launched the 'Explore Eat Essex' initiative to help support and promote local businesses during the pandemic.
Manager of Recreation and Culture Cynthia Cakebread says the hope is this will help some businesses rebound.
"It's an opportunity for individuals to head out into our local restaurants and just try and promote getting out back into the community under these strange times and giving our businesses something else to draw people in."
She says there's a wide range of businesses spanning the entire municipality.
"We tried to spread out throughout the entire Municipality of Essex from Colchester all the way up into Essex Centre. It's a really good, broad selection of different restaurants and different areas of our community as well."
Cakebread says this is a first for the town.
"It's a brand new initiative for us and the Arts, Culture and Tourism Committee, they've done a really good job of developing the look of it and contacting the individual businesses. Then we'll see to what degree the success of it, if we're able to grow it even more and take on some additional businesses."
Residents can download and print a passport which features 15 Essex businesses.
During the months of October and November, those who visit at least five businesses spending $25 at each can be entered into a draw for a $500 prize pack.
More information can be found on the town's website.
