First annual Pizza & Palle Bocce Ball Tournament on Sunday
The Canadian Italian Business and Professional Association of Windsor is holding its first annual bocce ball tournament in support of men's cancer for the month of November.
The Pizza & Palle Bocce Ball Tournament is on Sunday, November 27 at the Giovanni Caboto Club of Windsor, with funds going towards Grow On Windsor at the Windsor Cancer Centre Foundation.
Grow On Windsor is a local campaign in support of cancer awareness, research and treatment for men living in Windsor-Essex.
28 teams will compete in the tournament for a prize package that totals $4,000.
Vice President and Director of C.I.B.P.A. Windsor Ermanna Filice says the event will help local men who are fighting specific cancers such as prostate cancer.
"The campaign is for Grow On Windsor, a lot of people wear the goatee and have the Movember look, but we decided to do this bocce tournament instead and all the net proceeds will be going to the Windsor Cancer Centre Foundation, specifically the Grow On Windsor sector for men's health."
Filice says the event is sold out.
"A lot of people that are participating as well as the sponsors have been affected by some sort of men's health issue like prostate cancer and it's very near and dear to their heart, they're happy and proud to participate in this, we're hoping this can be first of an annual event."
She says bocce ball is a very popular Italian sport and is prominent in Windsor.
The tournament goes from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
